General information

The Island Chordsmen is a chorus open to all genders, ages 16-90+. We are an affiliated chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. We sing unaccompanied, 4- to 5-part harmonizations of music in the barbershop style, traditional men’s chorus style and vocal jazz style. Our music is sung in the “men’s” range, from G2 (bass) to A4 (tenor).

Rehearsals are currently held at St. David’s Episcopal Church in the under croft (downstairs). We meet on Thursdays from 6:30-8:00pm. You do not need to contact anyone before coming–just show up and give yourself the gift of song.

Our director is currently Angel Michaels. She has a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in music, with emphasis on Vocal Pedagogy and choral directing. Angel has also directed or is currently directing several other San Juan Islands choruses. Rehearsals are upbeat, sometimes challenging, and fun. Learning tools are provided for every song, so reading music is not required but is certainly a helpful skill. Prior choir experience is also not required.

Our leadership rotates regularly, some come in, meet us, and get yourself singing!
